Here are some previews of the works of art in The April Flores Toy Exhibit! The One Night Only show at La Luz de Jesus Gallery is about 2 weeks away on May Wednesday 13th. I am really excited about the show! It’s so exciting to see how each artist has applied their own unique art style to the Toy. I can’t wait to see the entire show with all the works of art together.

If you are in LA, please come out to this One Night Only Exhibit at La Luz de Jesus Gallery! Eight of my absolute favorite LA artists have used a plaster mold of the April Flores Voluptuous Pussy as a canvas! This is such an amazing exhibit because it combines sex and art in a very unique way, making the statement that the toy is a work of art as well as a pleasure toy. The show invokes ideas about art, beauty, sexuality, and pleasure toys.

Artists in the show are Axis, Carlos Batts, COOP , Jim Mahfood,
Kim Buzzelli
, Kozy & Dan, Misha , and Small Paul. The exhibit will take place on May 13th at La Luz de Jesus Gallery, and will be curated by Carlos Batts.

TOPCO SALES SPONSORS APRIL FLORES EXHIBIT

April Flores’ Love Toy is Canvas for Eight World-Renown Artists in Single Night Gallery Show

For Immediate Release:

Chatsworth, CA – Topco Sales presents a unique, one-night-only exhibit featuring limited edition artist renditions of leading Big Beautiful Women (BBW) star April Flores’ Voluptuous CyberSkin Love Toy. Eight, world-renown, Los Angeles-based artists are designing one-of-a-kind creations, using plaster molds of the April Flores toy as their canvas. Participating artists include Axis, Carlos Batts, COOP, Jim Mahfood, Kime Buzzelli, Kozy & Dan, Misha, and Small Paul. The exhibit will take place on May 13th at La Luz de Jesus Gallery, and will be curated by Carlos Batts.

“Creative interpretations of the female anatomy are fundamental to art,” explains Carlos Batts, Curator. “Specifically, this project was inspired by the irony of Jeff Koons’ work and the playfulness of the Dunny movement, as well as by April herself. In this exhibit, April provides the blank canvas on which each artist has the opportunity to express his or her vision.”

April Flores has starred in numerous films and has been featured in countless magazines. Voted one of Fleshbot’s Crush Objects, she has a massive and rabid following within the BBW fan community. She is the first BBW star to be molded by Topco Sales.

“When Topco Sales molded April to make her toy, we knew we were breaking new ground. Partnering with her and C. Batts FLY to present this exhibit seems like a natural next step,” says Desiree Duffie, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Topco Sales. “This show provides an inspired arena in which to play with such provocative issues as beauty, sexuality, intimacy, pleasure toys and more. I can’t wait to see each artist’s work.”

April Flores’ popularity, visibility, and name recognition ensure hearty demand for a piece of her. The eight April Flores pieces will be unveiled for the first time, and made available for sale, on the evening of the event. Each artist will invoke his or her signature style in designing a one-of-a-kind creation.

Axis is a provocative graphic illustrator and graffiti artist known for his bold images.

Carlos Batts is an accomplished film director, producer, and artist, who claims April Flores as his muse.

Known for smoking devils and outrageous monsters adorning everything from t-shirts to skate boards and album covers, COOP is an integral part of subversive LA art scene.

Jim Mahfood is a prolific comic book artist and member of the prestigious new Artsprojekt.

Kim Buzzelli
combines fashion, music and witchcraft to design evocative paintings, illustrations and installations.

The mad-scientist pairing of Kozy & Dan results in unforgettable graphic designs, hip clothing and the Bunnyfish.

Misha is equally famous for her Large Eye, Japanese-inspired takes on famous figures and her brilliantly detailed tattoo art.

New Wave rocker and artist Small Paul has left his mark on countless celebrities as a highly sought after tattoo artist.

“Celebrating my phenomenal new Voluptuous CyberSkin Toy with all these amazing artists in the flourishing LA art scene is a dream come true,” states April Flores. “I am so excited and honored by this event and, I promise, the unveiling of the pieces is going to be a must-see!”

The newly released April Flores’ Voluptuous CyberSkin Toy, in the Wildfire Celebrity Series, is molded directly from Ms. Flores’ private parts. CyberSkin replicates the look and feel of human flesh more closely than any other product on the market. It is waterproof, phthalate free, and manufactured by Topco Sales.

The unique April Flores Toy Exhibit will take place on Wednesday, May 13th, 2009, from 7-to-9 p.m. It is open to the public. No reservations are necessary. The La Luz de Jesus Gallery (http://laluzdejesus.com/) is located at 4633 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California.

Art Walk Tonight!

9.04.2009

POSTED IN My Life | 1 COMMENT

I will be figure modeling for artist Robert Vargas again tonight at the Downtown Art Walk. If you are in the LA area, you should try and make it, and be a part of “where artist, model and viewer become the art as a whole”. Watching Robert work is enthralling and you can say HI to me too!

Here is the press release:
Tonight,! Thursday, April 9th
6:30 – 10:30 PM
THE WORK IN PROGRESS SHOW (Part Two) @ The Regent Gallery, located at 446South Main Street, (between 4th & 5th streets) L.A., 90013.

Vargas opens up the studio to art affecionados while he works with live nude models in an intimate setting and creates the final paintings that will debut at his upcoming solo show at EVFA on Saturday, April 18th.

Tonight, I will be using the Regent gallery as both a traditional gallery as well as a live interactive, performance space, where artist, model and viewer become the art as a whole. More than paintings hanging on the wall, my live artwork encourages participation and discussion and when combined with patrons of the Art Walk, contributes to the fabric of the city. I believe an artist has the ability to contribute both to the present moment and to how the city’s history is written. Through the creative process, I engage with the viewer in dialogue as they are witness to the evolution of concept and execution in the moment. This process gives the viewer an opportunity for all to feel that their experience is beautiful and worth immortalizing.

In addition to the evening, there will be a special screening of a five minute short film, directed by dynamic young director, James Marcus Haney. I am featured in this film about identity through art.

AAG Blog did her own rewrite of the piece that has touched a nerve with many. Her choice of words make the same point as the original article but in a more positive, less offensive way.

Maybe she should write the next BBW article for that magazine? Either way, I think it’s great more people are sharing their opinions. More discussion = more change! Enjoy!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the past, BBW movies received far less respect than they deserved. Shot on a shoestring budget, most featured ample women getting screwed (badly) by less than stellar actors and in the very lamest locations. But now things are changing. Today many of the industry’s mainstream studios are devoting top-notch production values to these films, allowing those who love larger ladies the opportunity to jack off to women who embody their ideal of feminine beauty.
After exchanging actresses’ nondescript, loose-fitting clothes for high-end lingerie, provocative fetish wear and bikinis, studios now showcase Rubenesque women as glamor models. This trend crosses all racial and fetish lines. Choices abound for men who prefer their thick chicks black or white and getting nasty with men who are black or white. Studios are building loyal followings by demonstrating what some of us have known all along: Large women have as much fun in the sack as do their thin counterparts.
Many studios dish out extensive libraries of titles for resellers intent on increasing BBW sales. They coax awesome performances from the most gorgeous curvy chicks in the biz, making it easy to serve up these sexy products to consumers who crave them.
At a time when the country’s broke and people turn toward more realistic and less idealistic thoughts, videos featuring lovely big women remind us that a performer don’t have to look like the stereotypical porn-star in order to leave her fans begging for seconds.
Thank You!
I am so thankful for the overwhelmingly positive response to my previous blog post. I had no idea so many people would respond, comment and voice their opinions. Good Vibrations, Violet Blue, Fleshbot , and AAG Blog shared their thoughts and support as well. A dialogue has certainly been started and I think that’s a step in the right direction.
Chris, shared an email he sent to the owner of AVN and included the response. This is pretty great.
I wrote to the owner of AVN and said:
Hi,
My name is Chris and I am very dissatisfied with the words your managing editor decided to use for one of his articles on BBW models and movies. His name is Nelson X. The most offensive thing he said was
that the movies “remind us that the girl-next-door doesn’t look like Jesse Jane and will, indeed, blow any loser for the cost of a Wendy’s Baconator”
I among other people are very angry at his comments. My wife is plus sized and believes that people who say the things that he said are ignorant. I just can’t believe that this even got published. thank you for your time.
Chris
he then replied and said:
Hi-
After some research I agree with you. This was in bad taste. We are changing (stronger) an already announced policy and making it enforcable so this won’t happen again. We have plenty of plus-sized employees and, ironically, the write ris anything but a thin person. We are ensuring that this type of shoddy, distasteful “journalism”
does not happen again.
May we print your letter? And feel free to call me if you’d like to discuss further.
Thanks
Paul Fishbein
Yesterday I received my monthly issue of a magazine that covers the adult industry. I was excited when I saw that one of the Merchandising articles was covering the BBW genre and how this genre is “fattening up sales”. “Cool,” I thought.
My excitement however, quickly turned into shock and anger. The article’s language is pretty demeaning and I was honestly surprised to read such garbage in this magazine. I’d like to point out some of the horrible language used in this piece and address the statements made by its author.
“In the past, BBW movies were treated with about the same respect fat girls get in real life.” First of all, this article was written by a man so I am very curious to know how he is an authority on how much respect is given to ANY woman. I am a fat girl and I get lots of respect. Respect is usually given based on character, not weight. I as a woman have seen both thin and not so thin women be treated like shit. It’s never cool to witness or go through, but this writer thinks he’s making a point.
He goes on to say that better production values from main stream studios are “allowing those too embarrassed to actually be seen with fat chicks the opportunity to jerk off to them in the privacy of their homes.” WOW. This sentence shocked me so much that I wondered how this ignorance ever got published… in 2009… in an article that is meant to help retailers with what to movies to stock (I think.)
And that was just the first paragraph!
The second paragraph commends Zero Tolerance for giving the BBW genre a makeover in the Waist Watchers series saying that they “successfully showcased the heifer as glamour model.” I am on the cover of Waist Watchers 4 and did my first boy/girl scene for the series. I am in no way a heifer. I was recently called a cow, but that was by a drunk crazy person in Downtown. I had no idea that I would read the same ignorance in an industry magazine. I wonder if the author ran out of ways to describe plus sized women, or if he really is that big of an asshole? Either way, he should not be given a platform to perpetuate negativity.
And in the most offensive statement in the article, he says that these movies “remind us that the girl-next-door doesn’t look like Jesse Jane and will, indeed, blow any loser for the cost of a Wendy’s Baconator.” I have no idea exactly what he means, but this is highly offensive. I bet the writer was really proud of himself when he typed that sentence. He thought he was being clever by including a hamburger reference while disrespecting fat girls in the same sentence! Bravo, Mr. X!
He goes on to say that a certain production company doesn’t “skimp on the lard” for their movies because they “wrangle up the biggest bovines in the business”. Another cow reference? I am starting to believe that this article was not written a professional, but by a 7th grade boy with a fetish for cows.
The reason I am so upset is because I have met so many amazing plus sized women in the industry. They are proud, hard working, sexual, smart, business minded women. My fabulous peers and I deserve the same respect given to the thinner women written about in the magazine. Being a plus sized girl in this industry takes strength, courage and nerve. This article could’ve been pretty effective, groundbreaking even, but instead the writer took it as his opportunity to let us all know how much he does not enjoy bigger women. Aside from BBW porn being a means for fat lovers to jack off to, it’s also very important in helping other curvy girls in becoming comfortable with being sexual and expressing their sexuality. I can not explain in words how wonderful it feels to read an email or meet a woman in real life who THANKS me for being out there representing fat girls. I’ve heard many women’s struggles with feeling beautiful and desired. They tell me how seeing women who look like them makes them feel better about their bodies. In my world THIS is the respect fat girls get in real life and THIS is the respect I give all my plus sized sisters.
