Not My Candidate!

Below is an open letter Planned Parenthood is taking “straight to St. Louis, Missouri, for the vice-presidential debate to say “Sarah Palin is not our candidate” in a big, bold way.”

Palin is a woman against women and I do not support her or McCain.

Click here to sign the open letter.

Dear Sarah Palin,

You are not our candidate.

You are not our candidate because you required women in Wasilla to pay for their own medical examinations after being raped.

You are not our candidate because you do not support a woman’s right to choose, even in the case of rape or incest.

You are not our candidate because you’ve cut funding for teen moms and comprehensive sex education, while promoting failed abstinence-only programs.

You are not our candidate because, as vice president — a heartbeat away from the presidency — you would jeopardize health care for women everywhere.

We are teachers, doctors, athletes, programmers, artists, lawyers, secretaries, CEOs, students, designers, nurses, factory workers, mothers, and fathers. We are conservatives and liberals, Democrats and Republicans, country and city people. We are women and men. We are voters. We are the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.

We believe in a woman’s right to choose and the right of every person to have access to complete reproductive health care. We are hundreds of thousands strong, and we are doing everything we can to make sure you are not elected.

You are not our candidate.

Sincerely,

The Fall season has begun and I couldnt be happier. My new favorite TV shows are The Unbeatable Banzuke, “Bizarre Foods ” with Andrew Zimmern, and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares.

These interesting shows brighten up my nights. There should be more of these types of reality shows and less of the Kardashian/Denise Richards type bullshit shows where they try to pass off uninteresting people as likable with lives we care about watching. Anyway…

Below is a clip from The Unbeatable Banzuke:

I read the book this movie is based on earlier this year. I really enjoyed it. I am currently reading “Haunted” which is also by Chuck Palahniuk. I am going to try and see this movie this weekend.

My inner preteen is very sad..

My new obsession is the show “The Two Coreys”. I was a huge fan of Corey Haim back in the day. I had his pictures of him all over my walls, and I would even sign letters to a friend with a similar obsession, Mrs. Haim. She of course was Mrs. Depp.

Last season of this show was kind of cheesy and you could totally tell that it was a scripted reality show. I didn’t really care because it was so nice to see Corey Haim again after all these years. This new season however, is much darker and doesn’t seem fake at all. Corey Haim is trying to get work acting again. He is also working out his demons and it’s pretty sad at times.

I was shocked to hear that he was raped by one of Feldman’s (gloved?) friends:

And my heart broke when he was reading the responses on an article written about him on a website. (at 4:25)

My inner preteen is so saddened seeing how Corey has turned out. I really wish him the best and I hope he successfully returns to acting!

Corey please know that you have an open invitation to be in a movie with me!

Spreading women hate to sell a movie

Filed under: In My Opinion — FattyD at 12:19 am on Tuesday, March 25, 2008

I’ve been seeing these crazy billboards all around town the past few days. They are just plain white billboards with letters declaring hate towards “Sarah Marshall”. They are obviously promoting something, but its really hard to tell exactly what from the words “You Suck Sarah Marshall” scrawled across a billboard. Turns out it’s a movie.

One billboard that really frustrated me said “My Mom Always Hated You Sarah Marshall”. I don’t understand why advertisers have such an easy time pitting women against each other, and putting women down in order to sell a product. Judging by the many billboards I’ve seen through out LA, this movie obviously has the money to spend on an extensive ad campaign. Why not do something creative? They went to the trouble of creating a blog by fictional character. Why not do a little more work and come up with a less misogynistic way to market the film? As a woman, I was offended by reading the hateful messages directed to “Sarah Marshall”. I can only imagine that little girls reading these statements are also affected by them.

This ad campaign was successful in getting my attention, but it not in the right way. I will not be watching this movie. In fact, I hate you “Sarah Marshall” advertisers!

Little girls do not need to be exposed to any more negativity regarding body image!!

Women hating other women. NOT a good way to advertise a comedy.

We Said, We Can, We Will

With everything that is going on in the world today, (the war in Iraq, the environment, gas prices and the lack of alternatives, healthcare, etc.) I can not believe that abortion is still an issue.

I recently read that “In Alabama, Georgia, and Missouri, legislatures are pushing direct abortion bans that would make it all but impossible for women to exercise their reproductive freedom. In North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas, intense efforts are underway to force through abortion bans that would take effect as soon as the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade.”

This is scary! Abortion is only the business of a woman and her doctor. I believe that a man should have no opinion in this matter. No offense, but a man has never been, nor will ever be a woman in a difficult situation. I’m pissed!
